How many of you fail to accomplish the goals you set in your New Year's resolution? Do you ever set any goals? Do you think about why you weren't able to achieve your goals?

Some of my friends complain that they don't have enough money to pay their bills, holidays and upgrade to better lifestyles, don't have time to spend with their family and start their own business, fail to lose 5 kg, lack of focus to concentrate on their projects, lack of motivation to get things done or started, etc... Does any of these sounds like you? Or perhaps you know your friends or acquaintances behave in these ways? From my own experience interacting with my friends and acquaintances around, I found that there are generally top 3 frustrations in life that prevent them reaching their goals.

1. Lack of Motivation

Lack of motivation is the first frustration in life that I would talk about. A lot of people mention that they get started to work on something, but just lack of motivation to carry on until get it done. I totally understand how they feel because I was one of them. Most of the time, the main reason we fail to achieve our goals is because we simply give up. You might say there are lots of technical challenges and time issues involved. I acknowledge these are part of the reasons but the root cause is that we just don't want to give our 100% to do it and get it done.

There are just lots of thoughts appear inside our brain:

What if I fail to achieve it when I put in 100% of my effort?

Wouldn't I waste my time and effort?

How would others feel when they see me committed 100% yet still fail to achieve?

After all, I would still survive if I fail to achieve my goal, wouldn't I?

There are fears inside our mind and make us not to commit 100%. What's worse is that we did not put our goal as a must. If it is not a must, it doesn't matter for you to achieve it. If you can, that is a bonus for you. If not, do you care enough? Does it hurt you tremendously?

A Strong Reason

In order for you to make your goal as a must, you need very strong reasons. You need to find out the true "why" for you to do it. If you can't, your goal is just simply not your priority. There are 2 common ways, pain and pleasure, which are recommended by Anthony Robbins to help to motivate you. When you set a goal, think of the pleasures you will get when you achieve it. On top of that, think of the pains you will be going through or have been gone through when you fail to achieve it. You might not suffer right now, but what happen in 1 years, 5 years or 10 years, how would you feel if you did not achieve your goal? Can you imagine yourself living in pain for the next 10 years? When the extent of pleasure / pain of accomplishing / failing your goal are stronger than the struggling you are going through to concur your goal, you will overcome that. This is how you can motivate yourself by using the pain and pleasure technique.

2. Lack of Time

"I don't have time to start my own business, jogging, travelling, etc...I'm just too busy..." Does it sound familiar? Everyone only has 24 hours per day. How come some can achieve more in their life while others just don't have time to do anything apart their day to day job? I believe lack of time as a 2nd frustration in life is no stranger to everyone.

I understand some people are extremely busy in their jobs. That's why it seems like a valid reason to use lack of time as an excuse for not working towards their goals. For example, I know people always mention they would like to go to gym to get back their shape but they never get a chance to work out in gym because they are just don't have time. I also come across a few who are extremely busy but yet they sign up for $2,000 ++ yearly gym membership, just to force themselves to go to gym for workout at least once per week. Otherwise, their hard earn money is gone and totally wasted. What's difference between these two types of people? Does the first type (never go to gym) a lot busier than the 2nd type? I doubt.

The keys here are commitment and afraid of losing out. When you are committed, they are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve that. In order to enhance the commitment, they also fork out a lump sum of money so that they will force themselves to go to gym no matter how busy they are. Otherwise, they just waste their money. With this in mind, they will tend to work more efficient to squeeze out the time for themselves.

So, be committed. Think about the driving force behind that so that you are motivated to carry on or get the external force (such as to pay in advance) to force you to do it. In terms of productivity and efficiency, you need set the priority of different tasks and focus on 1 task at a time to avoid losing focus.

3. Lack of Focus

Losing focus and getting too much distraction are common symptoms among human beings. In order to focus on the "doing" to accomplish your goals, you must first have your strong motivations to back you up, together with persistency and determination, and faith in the methods/actions that help you to accomplish your goals.

Do not jump from one technique to another without mastering the first one. When the techniques are not working for you, think logically and analyze the reason behind it. Think and act like an entrepreneur, not opportunity seeker. For example if your profit is not on target, you should ask yourself the followings:

Do you have enough leads everyday?

Is your conversion rate (i.e. from leads to customers) normal, below average or above average?

How can you cut down the cost?

How can you increase the profit margin?

How can you increase the no. of sales?

How can you get more leads and increase your conversion rate?

All these will help you to identify different stage at the business you need to enhance and optimize. Just think about the process and analyze logically in different stages, you will be able to skyrocket your profit.
